Cindy Malchoff , My Apple Tree

Cindy Malchoff formed My Apple Tree in 1995 when she was asked if she would create a teddy bear from a fur coat. That was the beginning of a love affair with this cottage industry. Cindy is a self-taught artist who lives in the beautiful north east corner of New York State. With Lake Champlain on her east and the majestic Adirondack Mountains to her west, she is inspired daily by her surroundings, family and friends. She loves to experiment with color and materials!

All of her creations are original and 100% handmade by her. She found her niche in soft sculpture wildlife art, creating both Teddy Bears and birds and occasionally other animals. Her specialty is sculpting life-like birds ranging in size from diminutive hummingbirds to life-sized flamingos and One-of-a-kind Teddy bears. Her birds have gained her numerous awards, and great recognition. She found that mohair can take on the “feather like” qualities when colors are applied with various painting techniques. All her birds are created from various textures of white mohair and are then hand painted after the three dimensional shape is achieved. Her bears are created from the finest of recycled fur coats, mohair and plush and range in size from 3 inches to 24 inches.
